For the fourth Kamp in our Shokkin Kamp series we were hosted by Vihasoo Noortelaager, which was a very cozy venue! Shokkin Kamp, in short, is a youth event where young people come together in a non-formal learning environment with sessions on a specific topic, group building activities and socialising as the main objectives.

This time our main focus was on self-promotion and social media, as well as self-image and self-reflection. As a result, the participants created their own small media projects.

On Saturday morning (22nd of October) we arrived at the venue, settled ourselves in and played some games and energizers to get to know each other a bit better.

The second session started with an introduction to what social media is and how it affects our daily lives and self-image. We worked in teams and discussed the positive and negative aspects of social media and how to behave in social media. The participants even came up with short plays about the topics.

After the lunch break, the youngsters discovered the idea of self-imagine and tried two different tools for self-reflection: “The Onion Reflection” and “The Johari’s Window”. Before ending the sessions for the day, they were given the task to create their own characters who had to apply for a job and pass a job interview. It was a funny role-play game to develop improvisation skills and learn how to pitch for yourself.

After an intense working day, it was finally time to relax and enjoy the evening! We listened to music, played board games, played basketball and had a lot of fun!

On the second day, we started off with a session about trends and needs of young people. The participants were divided into teams and had to explore different stations where there were different questions. They discussed and found out some of the current topics and trends of young people nowadays, as well as what are the needs of their generation. On top of that, they shared what channels and apps can be used to promote ideas and/or important topics.

On the second session of the day, the participants were divided into teams and they had a chance to create a ‘media project‘, focused on actual topics that were interesting for them. In the end, they shared with everyone their ideas and plans. Youngsters got the idea and tried how to make project plan for media and any other campaign.

After the lunch break we had a session on evaluation and feedback. We shared our last thoughts about what had happened and what we learned during the past few days, said our last goodbyes and left the venue back to Tallinn.

Although it was sad that the kamp had come to an end, the next and last kamp is already happening in December! Thank you all for participating and see you in the next Shokkin Kamp!
