Shokkin Kamp is back and for the first kamp of the year we returned to EELK Laagrikeskus Talu. Shokkin Kamp, in short, is a youth event where young people come together in a non-formal learning environment with sessions on a specific topic, group building activities and socialising as the main goals.

The aim of the first kamp was to teach the participants how to write a meaningful motivational letter, apply for a job and give structural feedback in a non-formal educational way.

On Saturday morning (7th of May) we arrived at the venue, settled ourselves in and in the first session played some games and energizers to get to know each other a bit better.

The second session started with an introduction to soft skills and hard skills, what they are and how they can help us in discovering our strengths and applying for a job. We worked in teams and made concept maps about creativity, teamwork & communication, critical thinking and emotional intelligence.

After the lunch break the youngsters took a personality test and learned a bit more about writing a structured motivational letter and CV. Before ending the sessions for the day, they were tasked to make a video CV which, as we found out, is a very popular way of applying to jobs and standing out from the crowd.

After an intense working day, it was finally time to relax and enjoy the evening! We listened and sang along to music, played volleyball, had sauna and even cooked pancakes on open fire. Some participants found a piano in the canteen and played music while others were out on the playground or drawing on the whiteboard.

On the second day we started off with a session on communication and giving effective feedback. Participants were divided into teams and then had to act through different scenarios for applying to a job and how to successfully communicate. In the second session of the day we concentrated on putting all our new knowledge and skills to use – how to find and actually apply for a job or a job shadowing position. Youngsters got to learn small tips & tricks on what to do when applying or what to avoid.

After the lunch break we had a session on evaluation and feedback. We shared our last thought about what had happened and what we learned during the past few days, said our last goodbyes and left the venue back to Tallinn.

Although it was sad that the kamp had come to an end, the next kamp is already happening in June!
Thank you all for participating and see you in the next Shokkin Kamp!
