Description
Nature Hike: Explore! will gather 21 young people from Estonia, Spain, Portugal and Romania and give them the ability to discover nature and the possibilities it hosts. Participants will learn how to orientate without modern technology and sustain themselves while hiking. They will also be participating in workshops about mental well-being and its connections to time spent outdoors through:
- practical knowledge and experience on how to prepare and what to expect from a hike;
- tools for surviving in the nature: how to orientate; how to safely start a fire; basic first-aid tips; how to find edible things (plants, berries) and cook food in the forest;
- how to hike without causing damage to their surroundings;
- thinking more about their mental health and how spending time outdoors can help with that;
- improving the participants English and learn new nature-related vocabulary.
Participant’s profile
We are looking for participants who usually wouldn’t have the possibilities for this kind of experience and who are willing to spend nights outdoors and hike long distances (10-20 km per day). Participants will be 15-18 years old and each group will have group leader who is at least 18 years old. Participants need to have at least a basic level of English and be ready to participate fully in the program and commit to the dissemination activities.
