“SafeNet” was an international youth exchange that we organized in Estonia from 24th to 29th of July about the responsible use of digital technology. Through workshops, exchanges, and discussions, we learned to recognize misinformation, develop our critical thinking, and better understand the impact of social media on our lives.

But this project was much more than that: it was also unforgettable encounters, moments shared between young people from all over Europe, laughter, debates, and a real openness to other cultures. This project showed us that we can be intelligently connected and, above all, stronger together in the face of digital challenges.

“SafeNet was a short, yet amazing youth exchange, during which we got to experience many different hands-on activities, all of which were useful in helping to understand the topic of online safety in some way. I personally liked the big range of things we did: from building personas and daily schedules of average internet users, to using the knowledge of ways in which disinformation can be spread, to solve escape game puzzles – all of them are incredibly memorable and great for learning

Aside from that, this project was a great way to meet and communicate with people from other countries, both through group work during sessions and resting together during free time.”

Safenet was a relatively short but highly productive project. We managed to strike an excellent balance between brainstorming and relaxation in one of Estonia’s beautiful locations.

About the topic, I learned about how to recognize misinformation, found out how to better protect my data, and simply gained more knowledge about online safety through cool workshops and games. I also learned about other cultures which was really cool. My favorite part of the project was bonding with the others after sauna night and introducing each other to our traditions, music, dances, etc.”

SafeNet was an awesome opportunity to meet new people and acknowledge new ways to stay safe on the internet. I can now say that I have the opportunity to share my knowledge with other people.

The general impression I got from the youth exchange was that it was cooler than I thought it would be at the start and the people were a lot nicer than I thought. I learned that it’s way easier to use deepfake to make a picture into a video, make people say things they didn’t actually say etc. My favourite part of the week I would have to say was going to the sauna and jumping in the pond, it was also nice to talk with other people in the sauna about their cultures and what they think about Estonia.”

The “SafeNet” youth exchange was the first international mobility of the Youth Participation Activity with the same name implemented among youth organizations from Estonia, france, Germany and Hungary in 2025/26.
