From 9th to 15th of August 2022, Margit and Anastassija took place in the international training course “Get Across” in Malta dedicated to fostering active participation and engagement of young people through public speaking and visual facilitation skills of youth workers. Below they share with us their TOP 3 learning outcomes:
Developing our own style
Before the training course we didn’t really use graphics in our work, or we felt we were super bad at it. For us, the training course was an opportunity to try it out and learn the basics, and in the middle of the training course, we realised that maybe it is just a question of finding our own style and getting used to it. After learning about grafic facilitation, we feel that it gives us more possibilities to make good quality content in our activities with young people, but also for personal management.
Trying out mobile youth work
During the training we had a team task to go outside to Malteese streets and aproach locals to join an event and other activities of MUYA, the hosting organization. This was for us a huge moment of going out of our comfort zone. We tried out different methods to attect the attention of the local younsgters: in one team we AirDroped a visual about the event to people in MacDonald’s, and now we see that it is a really involving, fun and easy method for promotion.
Communication styles and non-verbal communication
On this topic, many of the concepts were something we had already heard or learned before, but this part of the training thought me how to use effective communication more in real life. Now we see that we can use it in any aspect, like team-forming, our personal behaviour in teams, in order to create friendly enviroments and aproaching different people.
“When I first saw that Shokkin Group had an open call for a training course I had to react straight away, as I had heard great things about them. And let me tell ya….all the rumors were TRUE! They are incredible at their job!
A great surprise in this training course was also the hosting organisation MUYA. They are a group of volunteers with great passion in their heart. It was an absolute joy to watch how detailed they were in their job and how lovingly they attended to each participant.
This whole training course was about graphic facilitation and different ways of communication. For many days I was given space to let my inner artist out and to see what type of communicator I am. Then on the last days we were given a chance to put it all into practice and we were let loose on different parts of Malta to communicate with the locals. I thought it was very cleverly executed training course! Thank you all for this great learning experience!! I was really inspired!”
