It‘s coming!

Hi, Filip here again, the EVS volunteer in Shokkin Group Estonia. During last couple of months a great lot of things happened and I finally found time to write a bit about it. So let’s jump right into it and let me tell you why last few months have been really exciting.

Estonia is getting warmer

It’s absolutely normal that it takes time to a person to get adjusted to new country when they move. After initial awesomeness of new city, new people and new environment, I was slowly starting to become more aware of things I don’t like so much too. The cold and dark weather. Totally different and/or seemingly rude communication patterns of the people. Occasional hard times in Shokkin Group itself. And lack of motivation that was stemming from combination of all. I won’t lie, in January and February, I was going through a crisis. It wasn’t the best experience, but I was prepared and knew that something like that will eventually come. And as expected, I got used to it. Now not only weather is warmer, but also Tallinn feels bit more welcoming. I started to travel around a bit more. I learnt to understand and if I don’t understand, I trying to be okay with it. And that’s the most important in my opinion.

City game is happening!

Huge part of my EVS is connected to games, namely one big concrete game that I really wanted to make happen. Since always I was a huge fan of gaming, let it be anything from videogames to chess. In recent years I started discovering the world of escape rooms. And I moved to Estonia with a big dream – to create an escape room so cool it won’t fit into a room. With using basic rules and mechanisms of escape room, we started developing a city quest. After months of work and a weekend locked together in a garage building some high tech gadgets, we are almost finished. The players will experience one hour in roles of elite secret agents with a task to save the world from a global catastrophe. Solving problems. Challenging their brains. Playing and enjoying, because after all, that is the reason to do it.

At this point, we are betatesting, finishing and polishing. And on May 30th we will be launching officially as part of Tallinn Old Town Days. There is still couple of spots left, so in case you are interested and want to play, now it’s the time to register. Just click here.

Message Wear is lagging a bit, but will turn out just great

During my time here, I got very unexpectedly involved with Message Wear, a project that aims to create a set of clothes that bear messages addressing issues young people see around them on daily basis. I am lucky to work with an amazing group of people with heads full of ideas. Unfortunately, due to development of the game, I haven’t dedicated as much time as I wanted to into it recently. However, we successfully managed to create a set of designs and they are recently waiting on paper. We are looking for designers who would be willing to help us and digitalize them so we can start printing. If you are interested or know anyone who might be, reach out to me at filip.gabor@gmail.com.

My last two months in Estonia are coming and I am really looking forward to make as much as possible out of them.
