Last March, representatives of six organizations involved in the project “E-scape: Exploring Supportive Creative Alternative Paths for Education” met in Tallinn for a short-term staff training. The main goal of the meeting was to choose the topic and create first drafts of scenarios for online educational escape games.
Firstly, our trainer Antonio briefly introduced educational escape games and their principles. Later, we divided into two teams and created easy escape games on the climate crisis and mental health. To do so, we used the tool called Room Escape Maker.
Our main goal was to decide what topic we should concentrate on with our mobile app. Based on the research, we chose the mental health topic, which is even more critical after the pandemic. It is also the most wanted topic regarding the youth opinions in our questionnaires.
We spent two days working on the basic scenario. Firstly we discussed the possible story, goals, and objectives. Afterward, we also created the first storylines and characters that will be included in the game.
One of the evenings we were able to try out existing educational games developed by young members of Shokkin Group and Fakescape, on topics such as migration and media literacy.
Our work, of course, continues. The team in Tallinn is currently working on the detailed scenario and puzzle, followed by the German team from Ingenius Knowledge, who will be coding the whole app and creating graphic design.
