Shokkin Kamp vol. 2 is over! We have spent an amazing time with youngsters in Paluhõhja Looduskool. The topic of this kamp was aimed at learning about environmental protection and ecology. Together with Liis and Jegor, the participants had a chance to go deeply into questions associated with defining different ecological problems that appear in the modern world. We looked at our personal environmental footprint and researched about the trash sorting system in Estonia.

While talking about nature and environment, we cannot be silent about Palupõhja looduskool. This place is situated about 40 km from Tartu and has a perfect location for nature exploring. In the morning of the second day Liis took us for a hike to show us all the variety of Estonian forests and the beauty of Emajõgi river. She explained to us the concept of public work called Talgud – something that everybody can do to help our nature to keep balance in the forest.

The days were short, but we filled them with informative sessions, energizers and workshops. Jegor taught us about different types of plastic and the ways to recycle and upcycle it. He shared with us the principles of the Precious Plastic movement that he is actively involved in. We could see some items made by Precious Plastic Estonia like keychains, cup holders, wall clocks and much more, all made out of upcycled plastic. Later on everyone had a chance to create a personal wallet out of shopping plastic bag.

Another cool workshop was made in relation with Shokkin Group Solidarity Project Message Wear and facilitated by our active member Ella. We could draw ecological messages on bags. Now, thanks to Ella, we don’t need to use plastic bags any more, but use our own bags with personal ecological message.

The Shokkin Kamps concept is to learn and discuss intensively about a given topic for 24 hours. We believe that it empowers participants to get motivated and continue working after the kamp. At the end of the second day the participants were divided into small groups and they created plans for future events that would make a positive impact on their local communities. How cool is that? We are ready to support all ideas of Shokkin Kamp participants with Shokkin Group organization. There will never be an end of good projects and good people helping each other here.

After two super cool days, amazing vegetarian food, real Estonian village sauna and a fire with marshmallows, we had an evaluation, exchanged last thoughts, packed our stuff, did a few last pictures in front of the main building and slightly sad headed towards the bus. Shokkin Kamp vol. 2 was truly awesome! We can’t wait for the next one that will take place in September! Thank you for being with us and  following our updates. #stayshokkin #savetheearth
