For the third Kamp in our Shokkin Kamp series we returned to our beloved venue in Paunküla, which is located by a beautiful lake and surrounded with beautiful nature. Shokkin Kamp, in short, is a youth event where young people come together in a non-formal learning environment with sessions on a specific topic, group building activities and socialising as the main objectives.
This time our main focus was on self-expression through dance and music with the end goal of creating a song or a dance.
After all the 21 participants had arrived and settled in, we started playing some ice-breakers and name games to get to know each other a bit better. This time we had Sara joining us, a guest participant coming all the way from Portugal to help carry out the sessions.
In the first session all of the participants had to make portfolios of themselves to showcase their talents and superpowers. We continued the day with one of our favourite teambuilding exercises (the lion game) and played Mission Impossible as a way to foster the trust and teamwork in the group of participants.
With the little time the youngsters were given, they successfully made the mission possible with record time and even created a fun theme song for the Kamp! After a bit of reflection on how the day went, we had dinner, went to the sauna and swam in the lake as the perfect closing for day one.
The second day started with a world cafe exercise on how we perceive self-expression through music and dance and why it is an important part of our lives. Our team member Liza did a workshop on blindfold dancing which, similar to meditation, helped participants to connect to themselves in a comfortable and safe environment.
Later on we were joined by our guest speaker Maria Jefimova (Masha Ye), who did an amazing workshop on songwriting and poetry. Masha is a songwriter and leading singer of the band Masha Ye, who released two albums and have been performing in places like Station Narva and Tallinn Music Week.
In the evening we celebrated two birthdays, had a disco party with awesome music and snacks and even had a movie night!
On the last day, participants had to put all the learnt knowledge into use and created either a song or a dance as a final product of the Kamp. They divided themselves into groups and performed songs and choreographed dances that they made in a short span of time in the session. All of the final products were super creative and amazing! After final evaluation it was time to say last goodbyes and head back home.
Thank you all for making this Kamp fun and see you again in October!
