This year’s Shokkin Training Weekend took place on 18-19 March at the beautiful venue of Paunküla. Young active people came together to discover more about project management and get valuable skills that will help them to develop their own projects.
Over the training of two days, we delved deep into the topic of project management in a non-formal learning environment, exploring the needs of young people today and discussing possible topics and formats that would pique their interest.
Day 1
On Saturday morning we arrived at the venue and immediately started our first session that helped us to get to know each other, our strengths and skills.
From the second session onwards we took a closer look at types of project and grants. Everyone had an opportunity to choose something based on their preference, from local, one-time events to long-term international projects.
After lunch we did a brainstorming session in a form of a world cafe, where groups discussed today’s needs, topics and formats that interest young people. With every session we were getting closer to the main activity – the project hackathon, where participants could implement their new knowledge and ideas into something real!
During the fourth session participants focused on developing their idea, discussing the needs, target group and timeline of the project. At the end we shared the ideas we had to get some inspiration and to support each other.
After an intense working day, it was finally time to relax and enjoy the evening! We had a really nice sauna night and played board games late into the night.
Day 2
We started our second day with an energizer outside, which was aimed to get to know each other more deeply, which is very important for any teamwork process.
After that we continued to work on our projects, but already with a more detailed template that gave a deeper overview of the project management itself. We needed to think of obstacles, resources, people involved and many other important things. Luckily, during the second session we also looked at these points in terms of already existing Shokkin projects.
After the lunch break it finally was the moment to present our project. Participants were extremely creative and came up with many amazing ideas. All projects were really unique and had its importance for society! Participants were very excited to continue developing their ideas back home.
The last session ended with evaluation and feedback. We shared our last thoughts about what had happened and what we learned during the two amazing days we spent together. We said our last goodbyes and left the venue back to Tallinn.
Thank you all for participating and making this weekend unforgettable. Until next time, and remember to #StayShokkin!
